We have good news for fans of old-school jRPGs. Nintendo has announced that it intends to remind us of the Golden Sun series.

  1. The first two installments of the series, Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, are coming to the Nintendo Switch console.
  2. The premiere of both games will take place on January 17, i.e. next Wednesday.
  3. The games will be available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
  4. The press release does not mention any improvements, so these are most likely just regular ports from GBA.

The series was developed by Camelot. The first installment debuted in 2001. It was one of the first hits released on Game Boy Advance and a flagship example of how much of an improvement this portable console was compared to the previous Game Boy. The success of the game resulted in a sequel being released a year later. Both Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age turned out to be commercial hits - in the USA alone, each of these games found over a million buyers.

The series also includes another game in the form of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, released in 2010 for the Nintendo DS handheld console. This game did not repeat the success of its predecessors, receiving both worse (though still good) reviews and worse sales results.
