Cultist Simulator will let you summon old gods and herald the apocalypse

One of the key developers of Sunless Sea is working on Cultist Simulator, a game that will let you perform abominable rites and bring about the apocalypse.

Fans of the Cthulhu mythos and other dark stories of the sort will probably be interested in Cultist Simulator, a game that will let players perform abominable rites, worship old gods, summon spirits, indoctrinate the innoncent, and bring about the end of the world. As a member of an ancient cult you will be able to choose between sane and insane victory conditions, the former including reaching success in career or romance. There is not much info on the mechanics, however Cultist Simulator will draw inspirations from board games and will feature a lot of text. There is a playable Javascript prototype available here – although it’s just a small chunk of the game with no graphics, it gives an idea of what to expect from the final product.

Sunless Sea script writer is working on Cultist Simulator.

Cultist Simulator is a project in development by Alexis Kennedy, the lead script writer for Failbetter Games’ Fallen London and Sunless Sea. The developer also co-worked with Paradox Interactive on Stellaris: Leviathans and with BioWare on Dragon Age: The Last Court. The plan is to release Cultist Simulator around Halloween 2017, but that is definitely not set in stone, since Kennedy is currently bound working on a BioWare project. For now, he is considering several options for getting funds for the game, including a Kickstarter campaign and finding a publisher.
