Cyberpunk 2077 Aims at Becoming an Industry Benchmark

The level designer of the upcoming game from CD Project Red announces that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a benchmark for the video game market, just like The Witcher 3 was several years ago.

Cyberpunk is supposed to be a trendsetter - just like the Witcher 3.

Fans of the upcoming Project Red CD game may feel alarmed by the latest news. For example, we found out that Cyberpunk 2077 removed wall running mechanics and simplified hacking. This paints a picture of the problems that the creators have to deal with recently. However, as Max Pears (CDP Red's level designer) announces, the game aims to be a benchmark - just like The Witcher 3 was years ago did.

In an interview for EDGE, Max Pears told about a kind of race with himself:

"Definitely. I mean, there's no bad blood or ill will towards any other studios or any other games because everyone in this industry moves the medium forward together. But especially coming from The Witcher III, which was such a huge success with such a great world that people spent hours exploring, it's very much a competition and a different understanding within ourselves as a team. We've set the benchmark already in one previous game, and we're trying to always do the same. So it's about always going through and trying to make things better, but it's also understanding that there is a difference and asking how we push those differences to being a benefit. But yeah, we're always trying to make genre-defining and groundbreaking games."

In Cyberpunk 2077 we won't be able to see scenes from the subway.

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 is announced for November 19, 2020. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Later we can also expect a version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
