Cyberpunk 2077 Drops HDD Support; Requirements Rise Before DLC Launch

Phantom Liberty isn't just a DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, it's also another harbinger of a new reality in the gaming industry. A reality where obsolete HDDs no longer have a place.

During Sunday's Xbox Games Showcase, CD Projekt RED presented the first gameplay footage from Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. By the way, the system requirements of the PC version of the DLC were also revealed. These, as already mentioned in a separate news item, have increased compared the base game. Therefore, it could be expected that the basic version of the game will also undergo a technological "facelift"..

From the updated requirements of the base game we learn that the need for better processors has increased (and even when playing in Full HD resolution without ray tracing). The most important thing, however, is that with the arrival of Phantom Liberty the devs are completely abandoning support for HDDs in Cyberpunk 2077 .

  1. Cyberpunk 2077 - regardless of whether we buy the DLC - before the release of the expansion will most likely receive an update that will adapt the game to the new standards.
  2. Developers have indicated that we will still run the game on computers equipped with classic hard disk drives (HDD), but all upcoming updates for Cyberpunk 2077 will no longer be developed with them in mind.
  3. Therefore, players who hope to have access to further patches must reckon with the need to "chrome up" their rigs
