Cyberpunk 2077 likely out by June 2019

Along with accepting a large grant for several of Cyberpunk 2077-related technologies, CD Projekt RED agreed to release the results of their work by June 2019. This is currently the most likely time window for that game's launch.

Recently we’ve learned that CD Projekt RED, the creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has been given a large grant from the Polish government for several gaming technologies. Interestingly, a Reddit user dug out some interesting details about the conditions the developer agreed to respect (thanks, The Escapist!). One of them is the timeframe for the four major projects – i.e. seamless multiplayer, cinematic feel, animation excellence and city creation, which are all believed to be designed specifically for Cyberpunk 2077 – which is scheduled until June 2019. The funded projects are to be released by that date, however the studio can ask to have the deadline extended.

Although it wasn’t mentioned directly, we can safely assume that seamless multiplayer, cinematic feel, animation excellence and city creation are technologies designed with a view to creating Cyberpunk 2077.

That would mean that we are likely to play Cyberpunk 2077 within the next two years, which is a fairly reasonable timeframe, since the works kicked off at full speed only after the release of the Hearts of Stone expansion, in late 2015. CD Projekt’s next RPG is said to be bigger, better and prettier than The Witcher 3. The game is going to run on RedEngine 4, the next version of their in-house game engine.
