Cyberpunk 2077 With New Design Director

Since Sebastian Stepien has left CD Projekt RED, we've been wondering what's up with the development of the studio's high-profile shooter RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. The game has since got a new Director – a person familiar to all the fans.

According to his Linkedin profile, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, formerly Lead Quest Designer for The Witcher 2, and Game Director for The Wild Hunt, among others, has taken over as Cyberpunk 2077’s Design Director, filling in the gap left after Sebastian Stepien, who had joined Blizzard Entertainment earlier this year.

Tomaszkiewicz is a figure well known to all fans of CDPR and The Witcher series. He has been involved in the design and development of all installments in the revered franchise and its DLCs. His thorough knowledge of the team and the environment should allow continuous fluency of the works on CP2077. It’s unknown at this point whether the game’s close to finish – it has been in development for at least seven years now, and we know CD Projekt Red is pulling no punches, with over 400 people being currently involved in the production.

Let’s hope we’ll get to race the streets of Night City (reasonably) soon.

The game has recently been confirmed as one of the guests of this year’s E3, the biggest gaming conference annually held in Los Angeles (June 11-14). We can only speculate as to what material will be presented there, but given that we received quite a bulky gameplay after last year’s Gamescom, we could reasonably expect to see a considerable portion of the gameplay this year again, as well as to learn an estimated release date (here’s hoping).

Cyberpunk 2077 will be a shooter RPG based on the legendary series of table-top RPGs from the 80s and 90s, created by Mike Pondsmith. The game will be set in a sprawling, futuristic city, where the protagonist, created by the player, will become entangled in various intrigues and adventures involving mega corporations, gangs and governments.
