New Visuals in DCS Make it One of the Prettiest Games on PC

With the new 2.7 cloud replacement patch, DCS World looks as great as Microsoft Flight Simulator. It's one of the most beautiful games on the PC.

Yesterday, Eagle Dynamics released one of the biggest updates for its combat aircraft simulator DCS World - version 2.7. The main change in the patch is an entirely new way of rendering clouds. This is a huge step forward for DCS, as its history is a bit like the fate of Call of Duty. The game engine is only being modernized across the years, and many of its elements still remember the times of Lock On: Modern Air Combat released by Ubisoft in 2003, and the graphics in a few places really look like 20 years ago. With new clouds, DCS World looks as beautiful as Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The devs have included thirty presets for different degrees of cloud cover, because unfortunately the new clouds do not yet offer dynamic weather conditions. Their appearance is to be improved, and in time there will be more effects such as thunderstorms or new fog. Despite this, the difference in visuals is really huge and met with a warm reception by players, who outdo each other in publishing screenshots and videos with the new appearance of the sky. It is also worth noting that the improvement in visual effects did not entail a noticeable decrease in performance, although their appearance in VR raises a lot to be desired.

Update 2.7 also brought a lot of new minor features and fixes, and its second important element is the completion of the main work on the flagship product - the F/A-18C Hornet multirole fighter, which has finally left the early access stage. In the following months we can expect the release of a free map with an archipelago of Pacific islands, the Mosquito FB MK.VI fighter, as well as Mi-24 Hind and AH-64 Apache helicopters. All the time the devs are also working on a dynamic campaign module, which is supposed to resemble an RTS game in some elements, simulating not only combat, but also logistics and supply.

The F/A-18C Hornet has finally left the Early Access phase.

Finally, it is worth noting that on the occasion of spring and updated 2.7 the creators have prepared a promotion that will last until May 2, 2021. During this time, most modules, maps and campaigns for DCS World can be purchased with a discount of up to 50%.
