Diablo 4 Got a New Director

Diablo 4 has got a new director. This position has been taken by Joe Shely, who previously involved in works on World of Warcraft and Diablo 3.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Diablo 4 got a new director;
  • The position has been taken over by Joe Shely;
  • In the past he worked on Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft.

In mid-August, three more important employees said goodbye to Blizzard Entertainment. Among them was Luis Barriga, the director of Diablo 4. Although the company did not give a reason for his dismissal, it is almost certainly related to the recent controversy over the phenomena of harassment and bullying that occurred at Blizzard.

For quite some time, the studio did not announce who would take Barriga's place. However, this changed yesterday, as a result of which Diablo 4 finally got a new director. This position will be taken by Joe Shely. Although he's not one of the most famous Blizzard employees, he has a lot of experience. Shely served as senior designer in the post-launch development of Diablo 3. He was also involved in the development of World of Warcraft.

In message to the fans Shely referred to the problems which the studio has been facing lately:

"Like many of you, our team has been reflecting upon recent events. A lot has happened since our last blog and the hard work of practicing the values we aspire to must continue. In parallel with that important work, development of Diablo 4 continues too."

It's hard to say how this change will affect the game's development process. Perhaps the team working on the title will finally gain the stability it needs. Changes in such high positions rarely mean something good for the project. For now, however, it seems that the biggest fire in the group responsible for Diablo 4 has been extinguished.
