Dune Awakening players are moving their most valuable resources to the bank, thinking hackers have been raiding their supposedly safe bases

Today’s dev announcement shed some light on the mysterious item disappearances in Dune Awakening’s PvE areas. Turns out, it might not be cheaters after all.

Cheaters and hackers are always a pain in multiplayer games, but it hits even harder when they mess with PvE. Right now, Dune: Awakening is dealing with a strange issue: more and more players are saying things are going missing from their bases, which are supposed to be safe zones.

Why bases are getting raided in Dune Awakening

Dune: Awakening has built up a huge community, and where there’s a crowd, there’s always weird ideas and unpredictable behavior. Like that time when some players started attacking others on foot with their ornithopters. There wasn’t even a proper way to fight back. Even though it’s easy to sink 100 hours into the game and have a great time, it’s definitely not without its flaws.

But this latest issue is even more frustrating, especially if you’re a solo player who shouldn’t have to worry about base raids. But it’s more complicated than you think. People have been reporting missing items ever since the duplication bug got fixed. But that wasn’t easy to confirm either, as half the time, the “missing” resources turned out to be duped ones getting cleaned up.

Now though, PvE players are saying their items are disappearing from their safe zones. Some think their stuff just got mixed up and ended up in a different storage box, but others claim they’ve actually seen people inside their bases, so they’ve started stashing their belongings in the bank.

And with today’s dev announcement, we’ve finally got some answers:

On Monday the 7th of July, we patched out a layout change to the Deep Desert which caused several areas of the PvE Deep Desert to become PvP enabled. This was an oversight in our development process and internal communications, which led to people suffering an unfortunate amount of lost bases and equipment.

We are working to reimburse vehicles and items (to the best of our ability) to players who were impacted by this. You can expect the reimbursed materials, items, and vehicle components to show up in the in-game 'Claim Rewards' tab by the end of this week.

So If you lost items from your base in the Deep Desert area, it might’ve been caused by the July 7th patch.

The dev team also mentioned they’re focusing on fighting hackers and fixing exploits. In upcoming patches they’ll boost security and client/server communications, run more rests for vulnerabilities, and review items and inventory system to prevent duplication.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
