Fortnite will soon return to iOS mobile devices in select countries. The popular battle royale received a new season starring Metallica.
You have definitely heard about the quite intricate dispute between the American companies Epic Games and Apple, which - at least it appeared - was dragging on endlessly. The topic is very extensive, but in short: it concerned the accusation of the second of these giants of using anti-competitive practices in the AppStore. The battle deeply affected Fortnite players, as they were deprived of the ability to play the title on iOS mobile devices. We can now see the consequences of Apple finally yielding to the European Commission after numerous court rulings in March this year.
Tim Sweeney, the head of Epic Games, announced that Fortnite is expected to be available again on iOS in European countries later this year.
We are unsure of the exact timing of this big comeback, but it will happen sooner than the game's debut in Japan. By adopting a new law on the use of third-party application stores in the AppStore, the Japanese government allows the publication of Fortnite on Apple devices. In this country - as well as in the United Kingdom - the popular battle royale will be released on iOS in 2025.
This is certainly a big event in the industry, as it somehow seals the victory of Epic Games over Apple. Earlier this year, the Cupertino company released the guidelines for external payments in its store on its devices after issuing a court statement. Even though Apple tried in various ways to delay the process, the application developers eventually received the ability to implement external payment methods, to which Tim Sweeney's company greatly contributed.
It's worth mentioning that today marks the arrival of the 4th season of Fortnite, called Fortnite Festival. It introduces a new festival pass and the Battle Stage, which is a music-themed game mode. There are many rewards to be won during the season, including the outfits of metal legends - Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo, Kirk Hammett, and James Hetfield.
Metallica members will participate in the popular battle royale game, and on June 22 and 23, there will be virtual concerts featuring the band in Fortnite. Season 4 also brings a new rock track to Rocket Racing along with several game improvements. The Fortnite Festival will end on August 16th.
