Gabe Newell Values His PC's Independence, Credits Players

At the Golden Joystick Awards 2022 gala, Steam Deck - Gabe Newell's latest „child” - was announced as the best gaming hardware. The billionaire spared no words when praising the independence of PCs and the gaming community.

On November 23, theGolden Joystick Awards 2022 gala took place, during which the judges presented the winners in more than 20 gaming categories. One of the winners was Steam Deck.

Steam Deck is a credit to the PC market and community

Steam Deck from Valve was named the best gaming device. Co-owner and director of the company Gabe Newell decided to say a few sentences about the role of PCs in the world of virtual entertainment.

"On behalf of everyone at Valve, I would like to thank you for giving Steam Deck the Golden Joystick award for best gaming hardware. My PC consists of an AMD processor, an Nvidia GPU and was put together by Falcon Northwest; I also have a Corsair mouse, a Logitech keyboard and a Samsung monitor. It is this interoperability, compatibility, openness that makes products like Steam Deck possible."

Mentioned in the text, Falcon Northwest is engaged in assembling advanced PC sets, often with a custom case or powerful cooling. Gabe continued his speech, referring to last year's speech by Naoki Yoshida - director of Final Fantasy 14 - on the significant role of the community in building the video game market.

"But more importantly, I was impressed listening to Yoshida's speech last year on the role of the community, and I also want to repeat that. If it wasn't possible, if we didn't have this community of gamers behind us that drives the entire industry, products like Steam Deck wouldn't be possible. So additionally, I would like to accept this award on behalf of the gaming community."

Interestingly, at last year's awards gala PC won in the category of best hardware of all time.
