GeForce RTX 3090 is Taller Than Xbox Series X - And it Shouldn't be a Surprise

A comparison of the size of existing and upcoming consoles and GeForce RTX 3090 GPU has been released on the web. Nvidia's chipset is smaller only than PS5, but it's hardly surprising.

GeForce RTX 3090 is not among world's smalles GPUs.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. HTC employee Shen Ye compared the size of current and next-generation consoles and the GeForce RTX 3090 GPU on Twitter;
  2. Nvidia's GPU loses only to PS5.

HTC's Shen Ye decided to post a Tweet to compare the size of curren and next generation consoles - PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox One X - and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090. The new GPUs are higher than almost all other devices, including Microsoft's next-generation platform. The RTX 3090 gives way only to the two PS5 models... and that's hardly surprising.

Comparisons of this type don't make any sense - these are two completely different products, and the top-shelf GPUs have been really big for years. At the same time, however, there is no denying that the RTX 3090 is one big GPU - with a length of 313 mm it is noticeably larger even than the GeForce RTX 2080 / 2080 Ti, which also not among the smallest models (267 mm). Nvidia uses the BFGPU shortcut (from "Big Ferocious GPU") for the RTX 3090. However, many users suggest another development for the acronym (but you've probably guessed it by now).

For most people, the size of Nvidia's new graphics card is mainly a joke, but it cannot be ruled out that there will be users for whom it will prove to be a problem (as well as the very high power demand - under load, the chip will require up to 350 watts of power). However, in the end, if someone can afford a GPU for $1900, they are probably also able to get a suitable case and power supply.

We would like to remind that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 will be launched on September 24. A week earlier, its slightly weaker brother - GeForce RTX 3080 - will appear in shops. In turn, in October, the premiere of GeForce RTX 3070 is expected.
