Corporations Will Introduce Mandatory Vaccinations for Employees

Stationary employees at Google and Facebook will have to get a mandatory vaccination if they want to return to work on the companies' campuses and offices.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Google and Facebook will require a COVID-19 vaccination certificate for their onsite employees, and corporations in the U.S. are expected to move away from remote work in the coming months;
  2. Netflix is set to introduce a similar measure for production teams and casts.

The world is slowly recovering from the pandemic, but the Delta variant of the coronavirus is not letting us forget this trauma. Also executives at major corporations cannot forget. On Wednesday, Google and Facebook announced that employees will be required to have a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19. CEO of Alphabet (which owns Google) Sundar Pichai said in an email sent to employees that this solution will be implemented in the United States over the next few weeks. However, it is still unclear how the company's authorities will want to enforce this order.

Facebook is also betting on vaccination - this was confirmed yesterday in an announcement from Lori Goler, VP of Human Resources and Recruiting. The announcement makes it clear that returning to office work will require employees to get vaccinated. This policy is expected to vary by region and how many COVID-19 cases there are in a given area.

As for people who, for various reasons will be unable to take the vaccine (medical reasons, religious, etc.), the owners of Facebook are to prepare special solutions.

Other giants will do the same - including Netflix, which will soon apply the same requirements to its production teams and casts. Members of production teams and "people in close contact with them" will be required to get vaccinated. Apple, for its part, is to make it compulsory for customers and staff to wear masks in its US stores, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not (via Bloomberg).

Across the US, the emphasis is now on a rapid return to stationary. Google is scheduled to welcome its employees back to campuses on October 18, although the original plan was for an even quicker return - starting September 1.
