I guess even from the most engaging game, you sometimes have to take a break. WoW players have packed their bags en masse and moved to OSRS.
It seems like there's a new trend in the world of MMORPGs - lots of players are getting into Old School RuneScape (OSRS). Among them are primarily avid WoW fans, who are astonished by the fact that... not all MMO games are the same (via GamesRadar).
This peculiar migration to slightly more relaxing areas of OSRS has been going on for several weeks now and is still gaining momentum. Among the players who became interested in the game are streamers such as Sodapoppin and AnnieFuchsia. Their communities also joined with them, and OSRS is gaining more and more popularity, which, of course, makes the older fans of the game proud.
Those who enter the world of Old School RuneScape are often surprised to discover a digital world without FOMO and the constant pursuit of achievements and seasonal rewards, where all their previous time spent on gaining levels and developing skills really counts. But it's not just that aspect that makes them want to stay - OSRS also has a lot of attractive content on the way to the endgame.
However, veterans of the MMO community predict that this trend will eventually come to an end, and that this whole phenomenon is just a manifestation of a larger pattern in which WoW plays a decisive role:
WoW players are once again in their migration season. This time, their destination appears to be RuneScape.
They have migrated many times before… only to return, inevitably, to World of Warcraft - Zytonex.
Maybe this time, some of them will be able to finish this cycle and rediscover the joy of playing without pressure, extra expenses, and constant grinding. In the MMO world, there is no shortage of interesting alternatives to WoW, but can fans overcome its inevitable attraction? As usual - time will tell.
