In Oblivion Remastered you can’t simply turn on HDR. To use this feature, you have to look for alternative methods. So, how to enable it?
Oblivion Remastered is not the greatest technical achievement of the year. As many others Unreal Engine 5 games, it struggle with crashes and poor performance. Additionally, it lacks at least one seemingly basic setting - HDR. To enable this feature, you have to use non-standard methods. So let’s talked about how to do this.
Like I said earlier, you won’t find HDR in Oblivion Remastered settings. Unfortunately, alternative methods require some effort and can cause additional problems. However, if you really care, you can use one of the three options described by fans or third party software.
This method requires modifying game files. So, you do this at your own risk. Before you start, remember to make a copy of the original files.
You can enable HDR directly in game files. First, you should find and edit GameUserSettings.ini. It can be found in the following path:
Next, you must open this file (Notepad is good option for that). Now edit the line presented below and save the changes:
This method also requires modifying game files. So, you do this at your own risk. Before you start you should remember to make a copy of the original files.
In this case you must edit Engine.ini (again you can use notepad to open it). This file is located in the following path:
At the end of this folder, you should put these commands.
[SystemSettings]
r.AllowHDR=1
r.HDR.EnableHDROutput=1
r.HDR.Display.OutputDevice=5
r.HDR.Display.ColorGamut=2
r.HDR.UI.CompositeMode=1
r.HDR.UI.Level=0.8
r.EyeAdaptationQuality=2
r.EyeAdaptation.ExponentialTransitionDistance=0.4
r.EyeAdaptation.SpeedUp=5.0
r.EyeAdaptation.SpeedDown=5.0
r.EyeAdaptation.LensAttenuation=1.2
You can also enable HDR in the game console. However, this is the solution which requires you to type some of the commands every time you run the title. So, it’s quite annoying.
Unfortunately, this method has some downsides – some elements of the game may start flickeing and achievements will be disabled. So, you do this at your own risk.
You can also use third party software like Nvidia RTX HDR or AutoHDR. However, this works only when game is in bordelsess mode. Additionally, if you decide on the first option, there is one problem – game barely works without DLSS. Using both of these technologies at the same time will cause a long input lag.
