The company that worked on refreshing games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Studio Virtuos, is reportedly facing mass layoffs. As reported by credible insider Gauthier Andres, almost 300 people have lost their jobs.
The company has around 4200 employees, so about 7% of the entire staff has been laid off. The reduction apparently mainly affected the branches in China, but it also didn't spare the subsidiaries in France, which were particularly involved in the Oblivion remaster.
Refreshing the mentioned installment of The Elder Scrolls series was a big challenge for the company. The contract with Bethesda didn't include fair royalties or a higher payment if Oblivion Remastered turned out to be a hit, which it actually is. As a result, the bosses stopped the pay raises and reduced bonuses, which raised concerns about layoffs among the employees.
According to Andres, a strike was organized at Virtuos Lyon after receiving information about the reduction. Moreover, the studio itself is reportedly striving for greater use of AI in its work, much like the King group, which replaced the dismissed people with artificial intelligence.
