Update (March 5)

Eric Barone announced on X that he has released an update for Stardew Valley on Switch, which fixes the glitches described in this news.

Original news (February 28)

Even though updates are supposed to bring new features and improvements to games, this goal isn't always fully achieved. Stardew Valley players on the Nintendo Switch console found this out recently.

The update, which primarily focused on fixing several bugs, contained an error that caused problems with the game on Switch. Among them were, among others, "distortions" of the text. The developer reported the problem on X.

I'm very ashamed to say this, but there is an error in the recent Switch patch. The game is mostly playable, but there are a few crashes, and some text will be garbled. Avoid artifact troves and back room of adventure guild. We're working on another patch as fast as possible - we read in the post.

Shortly after the update was released on Switch, a patch was already applied, which fixed a bug causing every gift to be considered as "loved." Not every player was pleased with this news, as some enjoyed the glitch.

Although Stardew Valley celebrated its 9th anniversary on February 26th—when the discussed update was released for the Switch—the game still enjoys immense popularity among players. The RPG peaks at over 75,000 players on Steam every day. Such interest is, among other things, due to the continuous development of the game, which—according to recent assurances—Eric Barone doesn't intend to stop.
