In October, Electronic Arts will shut down the servers of 4 games, including Need for Speed Rivals

Fans of the Need for Speed series have the last few months to fully enjoy the multiplayer mode of Need for Speed Rivals. Electronic Arts has announced that on October 7, 2025 - 12 years after the premiere - the servers of this popular game will be officially shut down, which means the definitive end of support for online functions (via GameRant).

This decision concerns the versions for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Although the official EA statement only mentions the Xbox One version, it's hard to expect that the Xbox 360 version would avoid a similar fate.

In practice, this means that players will not only lose the ability to race with friends, but also - if they don't manage to do it by October 7 - they will not be able to complete two challenges in the game that require connection to the online mode.

It's worth noting that despite the shutdown of the servers, Need for Speed Rivals will remain available in offline mode - you will still be able to play solo and access the basic functions of the game. If you are interested in checking the game out, Rivals is available, among others, in the EA Play service.

This is not the only Electronic Arts game that will soon lose multiplayer mode. The day before, on October 6, NHL 21 will lose online mode, followed by Madden NFL 22 (October 20) and FIFA 23 (October 30). However, it seems that Need for Speed Rivals will suffer the most from this, as it is the last installment of the series faithful to its deepest roots.
