Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet aims for deeper RPG focus than usual Naughty Dog games

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is another game from Naughty Dog studio, responsible for many hits, about which we really don't know much. The game was announced in December last year during The Game Awards. Apart from some details from the trailer, we've only got a few bits of information about the title from the developers themselves. The general plot outline of Intergalactic is known, as well as the fact that loneliness and religious issues will be important themes in the game.

Practically nothing is known about the gameplay (except that it is supposed to offer freedom similar to that in Elden Ring). A recent discovery by a certain fan, however, suggests that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not be a typical action game similar to the Uncharted series (via Reddit).

The upcoming project is supposed to include an "RPG progression system." This info comes from the profile of a former game developer who worked at Naughty Dog until last February as a technical designer assistant. In addition to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Kristina Gu developed level scripts and certain gameplay systems for The Last of Us: Part II Remastered, and worked on some elements of the canceled The Last of Us: Factions.

It's not clear what the "RPG progression system" in Intergalactic will look like, but considering Gu's portfolio, it might be similar to the mechanics in The Last of Us series. Most likely, players will be able to modify or upgrade their weapon. It is also possible that Naughty Dog will implement a character leveling system.

The release date of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains unknown (unofficially, it is said to launch after 2026). The game will be released exclusively on the PS5 console (at least initially).
