What is going on with South Park? We explain whether the TV series has indeed left HBO Max and what its future holds in streaming.
In 2019, it was announced that starting in June 2020, South Park would be moving to HBO Max, which had exclusive streaming rights to the controversial animated TV series since then. However, the deal ended in late June 2025. So, what's next for South Park?
Unfortunately, we have bad news for HBO Max subscribers, as they can no longer watch South Park on this streaming platform as of August 5. All episodes of the animated TV series have left the platform due to the expiration of the 2019 agreement.
The animated TV series hasn’t disappeared from the internet, so fans need not worry. South Park is still popular enough that interest in it hasn’t waned, so Paramount+ has now acquired the exclusive streaming rights to the TV series, and that's where you'll find all seasons of South Park, including the latest, 27th season, which premiered on July 23, 2025.
So South Park fans can still enjoy their favorite TV series, which, as part of a five-year deal with Paramount+, is set to deliver 10 new episodes each year, only now viewers have to move with the show to another streaming platform where they can settle in for the next five years, because South Park should be safe there until then.
Unfortunately, in today's reality, the migration of movies and TV series between platforms is the norm. Licenses change and end up in different hands, and with so many players on the market, it is to be expected that the most popular titles will be fought over and may change their streaming homes.
