We Happy Few is a strange game about community living in a lie sustained by a drug. It is definitely an interesting take. The game is not ideal, as it has 6/10 average score on Metacritic, however it gained many fans thanks to its unique atmosphere. Now, that a title is part of Game Pass library, numerous players decided to give it a chance. Of course, numerous games are better when a friend joins you. Is there a multiplayer or coop in We Happy Few? Let’s find out.
Is We Happy Few multiplayer or coop in 2024?
The answer is no. Developers decided to focus on a single player experience. They have given their reason in one of the Steam discussions:
We are not a big studio and multiplayer is a complicated beast. To be spread thin between single player and multiplayer would probably mean two mediocre game modes. We prefer to focus on crafting one great experience and it just so happens to be a single player one.
While many potential players may sight loudly in disappointment right now, we have to honor developers’ decision. We should also add that at this point, it is rather unlikely that creators will go back and add such a mode after so many years.
It is also worth to mention that some players manage to use developers console to enable a split-screen couch coop. However, this method is buggy and will not offer a quality gameplay experience. It is unlikely that you will enjoy the game that way, or even finish it.
