New League of Legends Champion Emanates Emo Energy

Riot Games introduced a new heroine to the League of Legends. She is Vex, a representative of the Yordle race, who specializes in magic. Her defining characteristic is... a very gloomy approach to life.

Riot Games released a trailer for the next character to join the roster of League of Legends champions. Vex, as the new character's name goes, is a yordle (yordle is a popular race in the game's lore, whose other representative is e.g. Teemo) who uses magic. We do not know yet the description of her skills, but on the presented materials we can see, that in battle she uses her shadow, both to perform attacks and to move. It fits the character of the heroine, because from the presentation we learn that Vex has a very gloomy disposition. Hence her nickname, the Gloomy Mage.. Her appearance, expressions and manner may evoke associations with something on the verge of emo subculture and a slightly spoiled edgy teenager with issues.

It's hard to tell from the two-minute video what role Vex will play on Summoner's Rift. All of the skills of the new League of Legends champion seem to be based around her shadow; Vex can use it to send out a shockwave of sorts, or she can use it to quickly dash at medium range. The gloomy champion also uses her shadow to perform an area-of-effect attack, most likely applying crowd control to enemies.

Vex doesn't seem to be fond of anyone outside of the few characters she associates with darkness and sadness, matching the grim yordle. The character apparently likes the tragic figure of Vie, the eternally sad mummy Amumu and the dark Mordekaiser.

In the near future we're sure to learn more details about Vex. Meanwhile, in the comments under the presentation of the heroine, most opinions are positive and put the new champion in a good light.

"Finally, a champ that literally every League player can relate to," writes user Just Some Guy without a Mustache.

"I feel like Vex is the representation of the community in the eyes of Riot," writes Christian Osses.

"She is a mixture of Mandy from Billy & Mandy and Amumu, well done," praises ZerkerZxZ.

As you can see, Vex has won the sympathy of at least some players. We'll see if she keeps it up when she finally gets into the game.
