Live-action The Legend of Zelda Movie is Coming; Prisoner of the Labyrinth Director at the Helm

After the huge success of Super Mario Bros. The Movie (the animated show earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide), Nintendo is not slowing down and is already preparing another production. This time the Japanese corporation announced starting work on the movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda series. Interestingly, unlike the adventures of the friendly plumber, the next project will be a live-action project.

According to the information published by Nintendo, the positions of producers will be held by Nintendo representative Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. The latter has a lot of experience in creating big shows - in the past he worked on several Marvel productions and also on the screen adaptation of Uncharted with Tom Holland.

Also announced was the name of the director of The Legend of Zelda. Wes Ball, the creator of the Prisoner of the Labyrinth series, and next year's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will be behind the camera.

The adaptation of Link's adventures will be produced in cooperation between Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, which is to be responsible for the movie's distribution. Although both companies will co-finance the show, the brand owners have assured that they will cover more than 50% of the costs needed to realize the adaptation.

Unfortunately, Nintendo representatives did not reveal when we can expect the movie's release. It should therefore be assumed that the project is in the very early stages of development. Therefore, there is nothing left for us to do but to be patient and await further information on, among other things, the cast of The Legend of Zelda.
