Microsoft Gives Pirates a Chance and Wants to Cash in on Them

Microsoft has an interesting practice to encourage pirates to buy Office licenses. People with an illegal version of the software will get a 50% discount.

Microsoft Office is a software that can be bought as either a subscription or full license. It is often pirated, so Microsoft has sent a special message intended only for pirates, which aims to convert them to owners of the legal version of the package.

IN A NUTSHELL:

- Microsoft is offering a 50% discount on Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscriptions;

- The offer is only available to people who use pirated version of the software;

- The discount is meant to encourage pirates to become authentic license holders.

gHacks published a picture showing a bar that appeared in the unactivated version of Office. It contains a message saying about 50% off deal for Microsoft 365 subscription. When you click on the bar, you are taken to a page about the dangers of using pirated software.

The discount is time-limited and available only through the link placed on the bar in the pirated version of the software.

It is also worth mentioning that the offer presented applies only to Microsoft 365, the subscription-based version. Will a large discount convince pirates to move to the light side? It is difficult to say, although it is possible that at least some of them will be tempted to purchase the legal edition.
