Misunderstanding about free copies of Runescape Dragonwilds. Community manager explains players' confusion
It seems that many people are confused about free copies of Runescape Dragonwilds. On the official Discord we can see some voices of surprised players.
RuneScape is one of the most recognizable franchises in the MMORPG world. So, no wonder that when a game from this series launches, there is a lot of fuss about it. RuneScape Dragonwilds was released a few hours ago and managed to gather over 40 000 in its concurrent peak. Not a bad number. And it is despite the fact that it is not free. Yes, while the original MMORPG can be played without paying money, to enjoy the survival you have to buy it. However, there is confusion among many players, who believe they were entitled to get a free copy. Is that true?
Community Manager explains RuneScape Dragonwilds free copies issues
With the release of RuneScape Dragonwilds, some players began to wonder where their free copies of the game are. Why do they feel entitled to get them? For some reason, the rumor spread among players that those who took part in the Alpha tests would get a free copy of the game upon its release. There are even voices of people on the official Discord channel who state that some testers received free codes. To clarify the misunderstanding, the community manager decided to step in and explain the situation.
No alpha testers were given the game for free. I don't know who would have told you that but I want to be very clear that all Alpha Testers had their keys revoked after the last Alpha test as a security precaution.
As you can see there are no free copies of the game. The situation is probably even more confusing because of RuneScape itself being free to play. However, this payment system was not implemented in the recent survival creation of Jagex Ltd.
As a reminder, the games do not support dedicated servers or consoles yet. However, there are chances that it will change in the future.
