All about servers in RuneScape Dragonwilds. Dedicated server and max players number explained

Probably most of us have at least heard about RuneScape – an MMORPG that started its career in a browser back in 2001. However, nostalgia only goes as far, and though many would argue that the original is still the best and nothing can beat it, numerous contemporary players won’t touch the very first version of RuneScape, and it seems that the developers from Jagex studio know it well. They constantly build on the foundation they have laid and release new games and improve the modern iteration of this classic MMORPG. The most recent entry in the series is RuneScape Dragonwilds. A survival-esque production that resembles titles like for example Valheim or Enshrouded. Of course, a very important aspect of those games is online co-op element. How will it look like in Dragonwilds? What is the max number of players? Can we expect dedicated servers to become available? Let’s find out.

Dedicated servers and max players limit in RuneScape Dragonwilds explained

For some games it’s enough to have a well-known brand in the title to immediately garner attention and “RuneScape” is definitely one of them. Jagex continues to experiment with new gameplay mechanics (after they romanced with cards in Chronicle RuneScape Legends), thus they have created Dragonwilds, a title in RuneScape universe that resembles the most popular survival productions of the recent years. However, there is a social aspect in the heart of any of those games, so it’s important to know the max number of players that you can take on an adventure with you and check if dedicated servers are a possibility.

In this production you can invite up to 4 players on a peer-to-peer player hosted servers. However, that doesn't mean that the dedicated servers that some fans ask for are not coming. The moderators on the official Discord have informed that there are plans to make them available at some point down the road. We have to keep in mind that for now Dragonwilds is in Early Access on Steam with no clear date as to when it will reach version 1.0, as the devs state that it will stay in EA for “As long as it takes!”. There is a caveat, though, that might be interesting for some…

Despite the fact that this game is available on Steam, it still requires Epic Games Services to play online.

While many players do not care about such things, not everyone will be pleased with having to agree for additional third-party services, so it’s at least worth noting before diving into the continent of Ashenfall.
