CoD: Modern Warfare 2 has already earned a billion dollars. The game recorded the best debut in the history of the series, and there are many indications that the return on Steam played a big role in this achievement.
On October 28, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II debuted on the market. Activision Blizzard's just-released financial report included some interesting information on the game's financial results.
The latest installment in the series proved to be a huge hit.
Activision Blizzard also boasted that CoD: Modern Warfare 2 is selling twice as fast as the last few hits in the series. No details were provided, but the way the statement was phrased leaves no doubt that this is not just about last year's Call of Duty: Vanguard, which turned out to be a financial disappointment.
Of course, gamers have been waiting longingly for CoD: Modern Warfare 2, as Infinity Ward's previous game enjoyed a lot of respect. Industry experts believe, however, that the brand's return to Steam played a large role in the success of this year's installment.
The series returned to Valve's service this year after a five-year hiatus - after the 2017 release of Call of Duty: WWII all subsequent installments were released only through Battle.net. CoD: Modern Warfare 2 instantly became the most popular installment of the brand in the history of Steam. Its current activity record stands at 263,174 concurrent users. The previous record holder was Call of Duty: Black Ops III with 63,681 simultaneous players.
Recall that beyond PC, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
