Myth Of Empires Pulled Fom Steam; Devs Allegedly Stole Source Code

The popular online game Myth of Empires has been removed from distribution on Steam due to its developers being accused of stealing the source code.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Myth of Empires has been pulled from sale on Steam;
  2. The game's servers are still working;
  3. The reason is the accusation that the game was developed on stolen source code of ARK: Survival Evolved.

The game Myth of Empires has unexpectedly disappeared from Steam. The reason is an accusation that the the title was created using stolen source code of ARK: Survival Evolved. The owner of the rights to the latter, namely Studio Wildcard, has issued a demand to remove the competing title from distribution using the DCMA procedure. It should be emphasized that the withdrawal of the project from distribution does not determine who is right in this dispute. It's a standard procedure in this type of cases.

The removed game was developed by Angela Game, whose founder previously worked for Snail Games, which in turn owns the creators of ARK: Survival Evolved, where he had access to the source code of the game. When Myth of Empires hit the market, the similarities in gameplay and technology seemed very suspicious. People from Studio Wildcard started analyzing game files and discovered several hundred elements identical to those of their work.

Snail Games and Studio Wildcard presented Valve with the results of their investigation on December 1. A few days later Steam's owner decided to remove Myth of Empires from distribution. A similar request was also made to the companies that provide network infrastructure for this production.

Angela Game denies all these accusations and declares that it is working on restoring Myth of Empires to distribution. Currently, the game can no longer be purchased on Steam, but those who managed to purchase it can continue playing, as the servers are still running. The developers are currently creating an update with bug fixes and new content that they hope to make available once the game is back on sale.

The stakes of the conflict are high. Myth of Empires has recorded a very successful launch and continues to be very popular. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, 38 thousand players were playing the game on Steam at the same time. This is only 12 thousand less than the Wednesday record for ARK: Survival Evolved.
