Yesterday marked the release of Necromunda: Hired Gun, an action game from Streum on. Enough reviews have already appeared on the web to make it possible to determine whether the game meets the hopes placed in it. Unfortunately, the reception of the title is mixed.
On OpenCritic, the average rating from all hardware platforms is 64%. The developers were probably hoping for more, but it is still a better result than the 57% obtained by the team's previous project, Space Hulk: Deathwing. Below are some sample scores:
Necromunda: Hired Guns - selected review scores
- 33bits - 80/10
- PC Invasion - 8/10
- The Games Machine - 7.8/10
- VG247 - 3/5
- COGconnected - 70/100
- PCGamesN - 6/10
- cublikefoot - 6/10
- Spaziogames - 5.3/10
- GameWatcher - 5/10
- Checkpoint Gaming - 5/10
As you can see, the spread in ratings is significant, so it is hard to talk about any consensus. Reviewers, however, generally praise the combat mechanics, which provides a lot of fun, although it does not offer anything that would not be available before in other titles. The game takes a lot of flak for its weak storyline and poor level of technical refinement. Many problems could be fixed by an update, so we can only hope that the publisher will allow the devs to continue to develop this project.
Also the game's reception on Steam, is mixed, although overall a little better than in professional reviews. At the time of writing this message, the game has 836 user reviews and 68% of them are positive.
Necromunda: Hired Gun was released on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The PC edition is sold on Steam and Epic Games Store.
