New Tears of the Kingdom Trailer Reveals Ganondorf and Much More

A brand new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had a lot to show off, including Ganondorf’s first appearance, fighting alongside allies, rocket jumping, and a column of lasers.

There is less than a month until the long-awaited and highly-anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is released. The latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was just released, and while it’s less than four minutes long, it is jam packed full of information to dive into. From Ganondorf to rocket jumps, there’s probably too much to cover in this short article, so you can watch it below and see for yourself:

The trailer begins with Link soaring over Hyrule, and quickly showcases a slightly different Hyrule than was in Breath of the Wild. The people seem to be slowly taking back the land that was once devastated. One shot shows a small encampment set up on some old ruins, possibly in front of Hyrule Castle itself. This is exciting to see because if Tears of the Kingdom had the same world as Breath of the Wild but with a few floating islands, it might as well have been DLC. Fortunately, it looks like there has been some changes to the world since the first game.

But, of course, not all is well. A structure seems to rise out of Gerudo Desert, possibly indicating that this game will feature static dungeons, much like older classic Zelda titles, rather than the divine beasts of Breath of the Wild. There is a lot to unpack here, Link falling through a column of lasers Mission Impossible style, a flying viking ship, and a giant metal colossus. Clearly there’s still a lot we don’t know about this game.

Link is also shown fighting alongside characters from Breath of the Wild, like Prince Sidon of the Zora, as well as various warriors from the other kingdoms of Hyrule. One clip even showed Link riding into a large-scale battle with groups of Hylians attacking enemies with shields and spears. This is a major departure from Breath of the Wild, which only ever had Link fighting on his own.

One of the most interesting moments is of Link using some kind of small, handheld rocket to launch himself into the air. It’s not clear if this is something that needs to be crafted, something that can be found, or just something else entirely. But no matter what, seeing even a small rocket in a Zelda game is pretty unusual.

Several huge monsters also appeared in this trailer, from a three-headed dragon wreathed in flame, to a terrifying worm-creature with huge teeth. It seems like these would make for epic boss battles. But, the ultimate boss, Ganondorf himself, also made an appearance in this trailer. Rather than the monstrous Calamity Ganon from Breath of the Wild, Ganondorf takes on his classic human-like appearance here. Which could lend to some great cut-scenes and fights.

What part of the trailer did you find the most exciting? Why was it the jousting match versus the bokoblins riding a stone talus? Leave a comment below letting us know your thoughts!
