NFS Unbound With RPG-like Character Creator and Tons of Car Tuning Options

Criterion has shared information on driver and car tuning in Need for Speed Unbound. Especially in this first respect, the latest installment of the series is expected to be more elaborate than previous games.

OThe official website of Need for Speed Unbound published an interesting article regarding the game's customization mechanisms.

Character personalization

The game is expected to offer more options for modifying the appearance of cars and the driver than any previous installment.

  1. When starting the game, we will create our own character. This option was already available in NFS Heat, but that game featured it in a severely limited form - we could change pretty much only the hairstyle and outfits.
  2. Need for Speed Unbound will provide much more freedom in this regard, offering an RPG-like character creator. We will first choose a driver template, and then we will be able to modify the head shape, hairstyle, eyes and skin color, among other things. Many alternative voices are to be available, as well as tattoos, makeup or bandages.
  3. The options in terms of the character's clothing will also be significantly expanded, allowing for the change of practically every element. Electronic Arts has partnered with a number of popular clothing companies, so their products will appear in the game.
  4. Players will also be able to choose poses that their driver will perform after winning competitions.

Personalization of driving

The game will also offer rich modification options for cars, covering their appearance as well as performance. This element has long been present in the series, so improvements prepared for Need for Speed Unbound won't be as extensive as for the characters, but tuning fans should have no reason to complain.

The most important novelty will be cartoon effects accompanying the race. These will be divided into two categories: visual tags and sound samples.

  1. Tags are stylized graphics that will appear on the screen while burning rubber, drifting or performing jumps or other crazy maneuvers. Driving hard will cause tags to appear more often and charge nitro faster.
  2. When the nitro is fired, the second type of effects, namely sound samples, will be activated.
  3. Unlocking new tags and samples will require completing tasks, finding hidden items and destroying billboards.
  4. For those who do not like such "aggressive" effects, there will be an option to mask the tags, so that we will see only tire smoke and tracks, and to mute the samples.
  5. Of course, there will also be the traditional car tuning. We will be able to edit the shape of the car and remove body panels (although this will be limited only to certain models). We will get the ability to customize each part in detail - from rims and tires to window tinting, headlights and taillights, bumpers, side skirts or brake calipers, and even the license plate. Of course, there will also be no shortage of performance tweaking options.
  6. The car can also be repainted; in the vinyl editor you will find many new designs created by fashion and automotive companies, as well as new fonts, street art or themes from other EA games.
  7. Players will be able to save their creations and share them with the rest of the community.

Recall that Need for Speed Unbound is heading for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The release will take place on December 2, this year.

Before the release of Need for Speed Unbound it's worth going back to previous installments of the series and improving them with mods.

There is still a lot of time left until the release of NFS Unbound, which you can use by replaying the earlier installments of the series. Each of them has quite a few noteworthy mods, and sometimes it's hard to figure out which ones are best to install. That's why it's best to start your modding adventures with the UNITE series. This is a series of projects that collect the most important fan creations in one easy-to-install package, improving graphics, audio, driving mechanics, physics and AI, as well as expanding the list of cars or parts.
