Nintendo Makes Billions, Bandai Namco and Square Enix „Just” Millions [Update: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Results]

UPDATE: Nintendo's financial report included another important piece of information. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which was released on October 20, has already found 4.3 million buyers in its first two weeks on the market. This is one of the best results in the history of the brand.

Today, several of Japan's largest game companies released their financial reports for the period from April 1 to September 30, 2023.

Nintendo

Let's start with Nintendo.

  1. In the mentioned period, the company generated revenue of $5.3 billion - 21.2% higher than in the corresponding six months of 2022.
  2. Profit amounted to $1.8 billion. (up 17.7%).
  3. More than 132.46 million units of the Nintendo Switch console have already hit store shelves.
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has moved more than 19.5 million copies, and Pikmin 4 has found 2.61 million buyers.

Square Enix

The financial results were also shared by Square Enix. In its case, however, the figures are not so favorable.

  1. Revenues increased by 5%, reaching $1.14 billion. Profit was $115.2 million, down 33% from April 1-September 30, 2022.
  2. There was a weakening of the mobile and MMO sectors. Instead, increases were recorded in the traditional games division, with 12.17 million copies sold, 2.76 million more than in the same period last year. This is due to the launches of Final Fantasy XVI and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters.

Bandai Namco

The last of the Japanese companies to share its financial results is Bandai Namco.

  1. In the period from April 1 to September 30, 2023, the company's revenue increased by 5%, reaching $3.33 billion.
  2. Profit was $435.1 million, down 19.8% from the same six months of 2022.
  3. Bandai Namco did not report any results for specific games. The publisher only boasted that Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a "global hit."

Sega

Sega revealed its results - this time for the second quarter (ended on September 30). revealed Sega as well.

  1. Revenue was $1.47 billion, up 47% from a year ago.
  2. Profits, on the other hand, increased by 313% to $262.7 million.
  3. In large measure, this is the result of structural reform and the finalization of the purchase of Rovio.
  4. In the second quarter, Sega sold 5.65 million games, including: 1.49 million copies - Sonic, 750 thousand - Persona, 680 thousand - Like A Dragon, 560 thousand - Total War.
  5. A number of other unannounced titles have been confirmed for cancellation, in addition to the ill-fated Hyenas.
