Nvidia Apologizes for Lack of GeForce RTX 3080 in Stores
The positive reception of RTX 3080 by reviewers has significantly increased the already significant consumer interest. The problem is that almost no one was able to buy their unit of Nvidia's top card.
- Despite assurances of chipset's availability in online shops, it was virtually impossible to buy the RTX 3080,
- Nvidia apologized for such a turn of events and promised to verify orders made in the official shop.
A lot can be said about yesterday's launch of the RTX 3080 graphics card, but not that it was without problems. Some people who queued up in the nearest hardware store are probably enjoying Nvidia's top model at home by now. Others, who prefered comfortable shopping on the Internet, will still have to wait. Despite assurances of sufficient supply, when the time came to finally order our card, instead of an icon enabling us to do so, an information about unavailability appeared.
The responsibility for this is of course borne by scalpers and the online shops themselves. The former, mainly by means of properly configured bots or in person, ordered wholesale quantities of flagship Ampere card in order to sell the chipsets at high profit. The latter, in turn, did nothing to prevent this - there were times when several pieces were reserved for a single e-mail address. Nvidia has already apologized for such a turn of events and promised to verify the orders. However, the review will only concern the official store of the company from Santa Clara.
To brighten the mood, we recommended to look at the auctions where the "businessmen" intended to sell their accumulated GPUs. Players have tried to prevent or at least make it difficult. Using fake accounts or bots they artificially raised the price to astronomical (compared to official) values. The record holder cost more than 80 thousand dollars, and at the time of writing the news, the most expensive RTX 3080 is worth 25 thousand dollars.
Next week, on September 24, the premiere of the RTX 3090 will take place. In the face of these revelations, enthusiasts interested in this model may be undoubtedly worried. It remains to be hoped that the situation will not happen again.
