Overwatch 2 Teams Will Have 5 Players Each

Devs from Blizzard Entertainment held a stream, during which they revealed some new information about the shooter Overwatch 2. The most interesting detail is the reduced number of players in the team. New maps and changes in the appearance of characters were also shown.

IN NUTHSELL:

  1. Teams in Overwatch 2 will be made up of five people instead of six;
  2. By default there will be one tank, two DPS and two support characters;
  3. Blizzard Entertainment also presented the current appearance of some maps and heroes.

Blizzard Entertainment recently prepared a stream dedicated to the shooter Overwatch 2 - the sequel of the very successful title from 2016. Thanks to this material, we learned some interesting details about the upcoming game, beginning with the fact that the number of team members will be reduced from six to five.

Overwatch 2 - changes in team composition

Teams in Overwatch 2 will continue to consist of characters with specific roles. A typical team will include one tank, two supports, and two damage dealers (aka DPS). The reason for the change is to make the battlefield more readable, and to increase the pace of the action by reducing the number of tanks. The latter were considered too clumsy and sluggish.

"Sometimes it’s just hard to track what 11 other players are doing on the battlefield. Removing two of those simplifies everything and it allows players to understand everything that’s happening around them and make better choices because of it," argued director Aaron Keller during the stream.

Overwatch 2 - new maps and redesigned characters

The sequel will also offer a number of new and changed maps. Most of them have been shown before, but during the stream we were able to take a look at what they look like now. We're talking about locations inspired by New York, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and Rome. The presentation also showed the novelty in the form of a spectacular map called Monte Carlo. The latter can be found in the video below.

Developers also presented information on the planned changes in the appearance of characters. What's interesting, they are to take into account the new age of characters, as well as new opportunities to which they have access - such as equipment or weapons obtained through cooperation with the eponymous Overwatch organization.
