The coronavirus pandemic, forced remote working and the desire to replace aged components have served the PC, laptop and workstation market well. More than 91 million units of hardware devices were sold in the last quarter of 2020.
The PC market experiences its best period in the last ten years. The 2020 Q4 hardware sales report prepared by International Data Corporation reveals that more than 91 million desktop computers, laptops and workstations were sold in the last three months of last year. This is 26% more than in 2019, and brings the total sales figure for 2020 to over 300 million, an improvement of over 13%.
Of course, the biggest contributor to the increased hardware demand, especially in the case of laptops, was the coronavirus pandemic that broke out in early 2020.
The best results for the fourth quarter of last year can boast Lenovo, which sold more than 23 million PCs. Second place went to HP with over 19 million ynits, while Dell Technologies came in third with just under 16 million PCs sold.
Company | Q4 2020 Sales | Q4 2020 Market share |
Lenovo | 23,122 million | 25,2% |
HP Inc. | 19,130 million | 20,9% |
Dell Technologies | 15,979 million | 17,2% |
Apple | 7,349 million | 8% |
Acer Group | 6,551 million | 7,2% |
Other companies | 19,641 million | 21,4% |
The report also informs that in the last decade, the market has been in decline for as much as six years, although it should be noted that this does not apply to gaming hardware. This segment has been growing steadily over the past few years and there is little evidence that this will change. Even if we take into account the abysmal availability of some components, with special emphasis on new graphics cards and processors.
