Yesterday, Grinding Gear Games announced a major change in the endgame of Path of Exile. The studio will remove the Atlas tree and replace it with Idols for the upcoming Legacy of Phrecia event. However, not all players liked this new feature, and many questions and concerns appeared on the internet. The developers didn't keep us waiting long and quickly published a short FAQ, where they answered some of them.

Answers to players' questions

First and foremost, the devs tried to explain how powerful the Idols will actually be. As they themselves admitted, it's quite difficult to say, but each modifier should have about 2 to 3 times more power than the corresponding node in the Atlas tree. This boils down to the fact that a fully optimized Idol set will provide three times more content on the map or three times greater power of one of its types.

Some players expressed their concerns about the randomness of finding Idols. That's why, the developers explained that there is a 50% chance of getting them from the last boss on the maps, and in addition to this, their drop rate can be increased with modifiers. GGG doesn't want us to rely solely on randomness, as Idols are supposed to be a "gateway to fun."

After yesterday's announcement, there were also voices suggesting that the new system was to be a testing ground for future content for PoE 2. The creators firmly denied this, emphasizing that they currently don't plan to use it for any other purpose.

Besides, several minor issues were explained:

  1. initially, we will only have access to 20 slots for Idols, but over time we will increase their number to 32,
  2. devs are open to extending the duration of the event or introducing similar attractions in the future if the players express such a desire,
  3. initial Idols will have bonuses increasing the number of maps obtained, similar to the first notes in the Atlas tree;
  4. Legacy of Phrecia will be part of the Settlers of Kalguur league, and early upgrades to our city will be cheaper.

New Ascendancy classes

Furthermore, the studio revealed three more Ascendancy classes that will be introduced at the event. We get to know the first four some time ago.

Daughter of Oshabi (Ranger)

She shares some power with the Warden class and focuses on shrines or uses Sacred Wisps to enhance wand attacks.
