We have all noticed server issues after Secrets of Atlas update. Now we know why this issue is so severe – DDOS attacks.
After Path of Exile 2 release, some players thought that its predecessor, Path of Exile, will be forgotten. However, developers believe that both games can coexist and it seems that they are right, as the recent update, Secrets of the Atlas, brought back thousands of players to PoE, leaving far behind its sequel (at least on Steam, via SteamDB). However, there is one big problem with the new league – servers. In the recent post developers have revealed the source of the issues – DDOS attacks.
A few hours ago PoE community team shared a message on the Grinding Gear Games forum and Steam. Of course, it addresses the Secrets of the Atlas update. In the post, the developers thank players and address pressing issues, starting with the most important one - connection.
It seems that European servers suffer the most, but others are also endangered. The team explains that DDOS attacks are behind the recent breakdowns. DDOS means Distributed Denial-of-Service. It happens when multiple IP addresses or infected machines create overwhelming traffic on the victim’s servers, which may cause service disruptions. Developers do not hide from the liability, though and states that "this is unacceptable service” and they are deeply sorry. Sadly, there is no ETA (estimated time of arrival) of the fix due to the nature of the breakdown.
Additionally, developers report that they have managed to fix issues with the console build and they will patch problems with Mercenaries who can instantly kill our characters. Moreover, expect changes to the Memory Skills granted in maps influenced by The Originator.
So, it seems that we have to wait for the upcoming updates. Let’s hope that developers will fix issues quickly.
