Riot Games Wants to Slow Down Combat in League of Legends

Riot Games intends to slow down the pace of combat in League of Legends. This is expected to happen later in Season 12.

Big changes are coming to League of Legends. Riot Games intends to slow down the pace of combat in the game.

  1. The source of this information is lead gameplay designer Bryan Salvatore, who revealed it in a thread on Reddit.
  2. Salvatore (who goes by the hadle Riot Axes in the thread) explains that the dynamic action is an advantage of LoL but in recent years the damage dealt by the characters has been increased too much.
  3. Currently, characters die so quickly that players sometimes have trouble understanding who killed them, much less appreciating how it was done.
  4. It has not been revealed when exactly these changes will take place and what form they will take, but Riot Games is expected to reveal the details in the next few weeks.

The changes are needed because in recent years the pace of fights has been greatly increased. According to the analysis by Dot Esports currently, a direct clash between teams lasts on average about 14 seconds, while previously it was about 22 seconds, and the largest skirmishes could take up to a minute.

The slowing down of battles is expected to take place later in Season 12, but it's unclear if the changes will be implemented immediately for all heroes.
