Warhammer 40K RPG Announced

Owlcat Games, known for the Pathfinder series, is working on Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, the first classic RPG set in this universe.

Warhammer Skulls 2022, a virtual event for fans of the universes created by Games Workshop, took place yesterday. The most interesting news was the announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader announced

It will be the first classic RPG (not an action RPG, as it was in the case of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr), set in the universe of Warhammer 40K.

  1. The game is developed by Owlcat Games, the authors of Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
  2. The game is being developed for PC and yet unspecified consoles.
  3. The PC version will be sold on Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.com.
  4. For now, the developers are not ready to give a planned release date.
  5. On the official website of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader you can now place preorders, which provide access to alpha testing that will start later this year. This offer is only available for the PC version of the game.

In Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader we take on the role of a descendant of an ancient family of space merchants and explorers who, at the behest of the Emperor, explore the distant regions of the galaxy in order to expand the borders of the human empire.

During the campaign we will travel on a spaceship, joining the encountered worlds to the merchant sphere of influence or robbing them of valuable resources. During our expeditions we will encounter, among others, the forces of Chaos and numerous alien races.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is announced as a classic RPG. During the game we will control a part of characters, increase their stats, complete tasks and fight turn-based battles. The devs promise an extensive storyline, which will be shaped largely by our own decisions.

Where did the name Rogue Trader come from?

The title of the new game by Owlcat Games refers to the oldest traditions of this brand. The name Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader was the name of the first edition of this tabletop battle game released in 1987 by Games Workshop.

In later editions this subtitle was abandoned, but in 2009 it returned with Rogue Trader, a pen&paper RPG developed by Fantasy Flight Games. Unfortunately seven years later the company's cooperation with Games Workshop ended and the project, along with many others, was pulled from sale.
