We will no longer get new games in the Saints Row series from Volition, as it has been closed down. This is due to the restructuring of Embracer Group.
Sad news for Saints Row fans. Today we learned that studio Volition will not create any more games in the series. This is because it has been closed down. The developers shared this information on their official website:
"This past June, Embracer Group announced a restructuring program to strengthen Embracer and maintain its position as a leader in the video game industry. As part of that program, they evaluated strategic and operational goals and made the difficult decision to close Volition effective immediately."
As is well known, the creators of Saints Row were under the wings of the Embracer Group for several years now. In June, the company announced major restructuring, which was to involve the termination of work on some projects (mainly unannounced ones) and the closure of some studios. At the time, however, the details were not disclosed, which is why only today we learned of Volition's fate.
At the moment, the team of the now-closed studio is trying to find new work for "members of the Volition family." However, we do not know more details about this difficult situation, and at the same time we don't know what's next for Saints Row.
Volition is a studio with a long history, as it dates back to 1993. It is best known precisely for the Saints Row series, an open-world TPP action game franchise, which at one time competed with Grand Theft Auto. Saints Row is famous for its downright absurd sense of humor (although it had a more serious tone at the beginning).
The last game that Volition created is the 2022's Saints Row, which is a reboot of the series. The title met with a lukewarm reception from both critics and gamers - on Steam out of more than 1,000 reviews, 60% are positive (the game hit the platform only last week). For this reason, Volition has been handed over to the Gearbox group.
