Skylords Reborn, Free Fan Succesor to BattleForge, Received New Story Missions

RTS fans have been pretty neglected by publishers lately, so they are increasingly rolling up their sleeves and keeping classic old genre titles alive. One of the most interesting fruits of this is the Skylords Reborn project. It's a free game that is a reworking of BattleForge, a hybrid of strategy and card game developed by Phenomic studio, known for its Spellforce series. The project resurrects this title, as the original used a free-to-play model and its servers were shut down in 2013.

Skylords Reborn not only restores the game's full online functionality but also upgrades many of its elements. The gameplay balance was also improved and technical bugs were fixed. Above all, however, all free-to-play mechanics have been removed so that upgrades can only be unlocked through gameplay.

The project has been in development for a couple of years, but it's worth writing about now, as a recently released update expanded the story mode for the first time.

1. Until now, the creators have focused on improving the multiplayer, but the latest patch has finally added two new missions to the story campaign. They play out parallel to the main storyline and focus on the armies of the Armii faction (which simultaneously received several additional units), allowing players to experience the conflict from a different perspective.
2. The update also added a new PvP mode to the game called Battle Arena. In it, players do not use cards from their deck. Instead, they receive spell-activating devices and gradually get increasingly powerful creatures that they must use to defeat enemies. The mode allows players to play in 2v2 and 3v3 variants.

It should be added that Skylords Reborn is both a completely free and standalone production. You do not need to have the old BattleForge files. You just need to download the installer and register an account. The project is improving all the time and the developers have plans for further updates. Importantly, they can create them in peace, as the project has the blessing of Electronic Arts, which was the publisher of BattleForge.
