Sony Acquires First Mobile Game Studio; PlayStation Studios Mobile Launches

Sony is officially entering the mobile gaming market. The Japanese company announced today that it has acquired Savage Game Studios, a developer specializing in games for phones and tablets.

PS5 gets more expensive, Sony is increasingly eager to release its games on PC, and will soon start releasing mobile games. This will be possible thanks to the Japanese company acquiring Germany developer Savage Game Studios, a team specializing in productions designed for phones and tablets.

Sony's new purchase was announced today on the PlayStation blog by Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios. He welcomed this relatively young - founded in 2020 - development team to the family, at the same time announcing the launch of the PlayStation Studios Mobile division (not to be confused with the PlayStation Mobile brand - now renamed PlayStation PC - used, at one time, to publish ports of Sony games for personal computers).

Significantly, Hermen Hulst assured the fans that Sony's efforts in the mobile market "will not diminish the company's commitment to the PlayStation community or its passion for creating amazing, narrative-driven single-player experiences."

It's worth noting that while Savage Game Studios has been around for a fairly short time, the studio was founded by industry veterans with extensive experience working on mobile games, namely Michail Katkoff (formerly Rovio Entertainment, Zynga), Nadjim Adjir (Wargaming, Rovio) and Michael McManus (Wargaming, Insomniac Games).

Interestingly, Savage Game Studios is already working on its first title. It is to be a AAA live-service game.
