Stampede Racing Royale: A 60 Player Free For All

Perhaps the most chaotic experience at Summer Game Fest was the chance to try Stampede: Racing Royale, a 60-player racing elimination game.

“It’s like a combination of Mario Kart and Fall Guys,” said Paul Hollywood, creative director of The upcoming free to play Stampede: Racing Royale. This game really lives up to that comparison because the beginning of each three round elimination game starts with sixty racers on one track. Only the top forty racers make it onto the next round, and then the top twenty of that round compete for ultimate supremacy. Check out the trailer here.

The battle royale game genre has taken the gaming world by storm ever since games like Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite catapulted the genre to fame. But this will mark the first time the concept has been applied to a racing game. There is a strange sense of amazement watching the chaos unfold as sixty players all share the same race track. There is no doubt that this chaos filled game will be great to play with friends, much like other battle royale and racing games.

Players can pick up items during the race like bombs and mines to slow down their opponents, as well as shields to block incoming items. Though, as you might imagine, when sixty people are all competing for the same item boxes, it’s not as easy as it sounds to grab one yourself. The size of the courses will also shrink as the rounds progress and players get eliminated.

It’s not all racing, there are also battle modes mixed in with the races. In these modes players compete to score the most points by hitting each other with items. Players with the highest scores progress to the next round.

If this game sounds interesting, you can register on Stampede: Racing Royale’s website or on Steam for the playtest that will drop this summer, followed by Steam Early Access later this year. Thanks to Sumo Digital, Secret Mode, and Summer Game Fest for the opportunity to try out this exciting new game!
