SYSTEM SHOCK 3 IN A NUTSHELL:
- Manufacturer: OtherSide Entertainment
- Publisher: OtherSide Entertainment
- Genre: FPS with RPG elements
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: unknown
Swedish company Starbreeze Studios has announced that it has resold the publishing rights to the System Shock 3 shooter. The buyer is OtherSide Entertainment, the developer of the title and the previous owner of the rights, who concluded a contract with the Swedes in March 2017. It is worth noting that Starbreeze was not only to publish the project, but also co-financed its creation. The agreement that has just been signed assumes that the money will be returned.
I think this is the best solution for us, although it's sad that we can't complete the project with OtherSide. System Shock 3 is a fantastic title, developed in cooperation with Warren Spector, an industry legend, and I'm looking forward to the release of the game", said Mikael Nermark, acting CEO of Starbreeze AB.
The reasons for the decision are not known. The communication only states that Starbreeze plans to focus on its brands such as Psychonauts 2 and Ten Crowns. Unfortunately, it is also uncertain what the situation means for System Shock 3. Loss of funding, combined with the need to return the money received so far (probably not insignificant), may be a considerable problem for the studio.
We would like to remind you that System Shock 3 is an emotional continuation of the cult series of shooters with RPG elements. Embedded in the dark world of science fiction, games also contain numerous threads and mechanics characteristic of survival horrors. Many players still consider these productions as one of the best games in the history of the genre. In addition to Warren Spector (one of the fathers of the System Shock, as well as the Deus Ex series), another industry legend Paul Neurath (System Shock 2, Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age, Arx Fatalis) is also working on the third part of the series.
