Blizzard CEO Holds On to StarCraft; It's One of the Best IPs on the Market
During a discussion on Twitter, Blizzard's CEO stated that StarCraft is one of the best IPs on the market. Perhaps this heralds work on the next installments.
Mike Ybarra, CEO of Blizzard, discussed StarCraft on Twitter with Lilik - a popular Twitch streamer. The corporate executive admitted that it is one of the best brands available on the market, but did not reveal whether a new installment is currently being developed.
Will StarCraft return in a different format?
In the original post, Lirik, who boasts nearly 3 million followers on Twitch, addressed the issue of leveling in Diablo 4. His comments were answered by a GIF from the aforementioned Blizzard CEO. Taking the opportunity, the developer asked Ybarra about StarCraft - he pointed out the title's chance to break out of the RTS (real-time strategy) mold and emphasized its huge potential.
Ybarra agreed that the brand has great potential and is still one of the best series in the gaming world. Does this mean that players will return to this universe in some new installment? The answer we got for now is not very satisfactory: maybe. After all, a lot depends on the final outcome of Microsoft's high-profile acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which is stuck in court after being blocked by the British CMA.
Possible return of StarCraft has already been signaled by Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, who was excited about opening up new possibilities after the approval of the 69 billion deal.
Previous StarCraft unveilings
For the first time StarCraft appeared on the market in 1998 on personal computers. Blizzard's production appealed to millions of gamers around the world, gaining a multitude of admirers. In 2010, the brand lived to see the second part, which was divided into three episodes: StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm and StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. In 2017, the original game also received a remaster enabling the players to experience the space adventure once again.
Currently the original StarCraft is available for free on Battle.net. On the same website, the Remastered version costs $7.50 (discounted by 50%), and the entire StarCraft II collection - $30 (discounted by 25%).
