Starship Troopers: Extermination Launches [UPDATE]

Any moment now a new game from the creators of the popular Squad will hit Steam. In the cooperative FPS, players will face hordes of space bugs.

Update #2

First hours of Starship Troopers: Extermination on Steam are surprisingly good.

In the peak so far the game was launched simultaneously by 11,328 people, and the share of positive player reviews is currently 93% (out of 1392 reviews).

Admittedly, there are reports of bugs and problems with performance or relatively small amount of content, which would be difficult to avoid in Early Access, but the joy of cooperative alien killing effectively overshadows them. The weekend promises to be an interesting one.

"Good grief, where to begin.... I landed on a planet, we all shouted war memes and movie/anime/series quotes, and we all panicked the entire time we were being shot at by anything that moved - right on schedule. It was fun, it was intense, we laughed and died together, and sixteen players didn't matter anyway when the hordes came. It was madness!"

"Everyone fighting, no one leaving."

"The most bug-infested game I've ever played."

Update

Starship Troopers: Extermination has already appeared on Steam as part of early access.

Original news

In a dozen hours or so, in early access on Steam will debut Starship Troopers: Extermination - a cooperative first-person shooter licensed from the iconic movie from the 1990s.

Fight against space bugs

In the latest game from Offworld Industries (devs of the acclaimed Squad) we will play the role of a member of the elite special forces called Deep Space Vanguard. A squad of soldiers will face the invading Arachnids on large, diverse maps..

In order to diversify the classic model of a cooperative FPS, the developers offered the audience a number of interesting solutions and mechanics:

  1. play in as many as 16 people simultaneously;
  2. 3 differentiated character classes;
  3. a progression system within each profession;
  4. 5 types of space bugs.

In addition, elements of the tower defense genre have been introduced to the gameplay based on shooting aliens. In certain missions, the task of the Deep Space Vanguard squad will be to construct a base and fortifications, which will then help players repel the invading hordes of space bugs.

Close cooperation and the use of fortifications will prove crucial, as the threat and strength of the Arachnids are expected to grow over the course of subsequent missions.

The game will be made available at midnight from May 17 to 18.. Unfortunately, before that hour we will not know the official price.
