Surprise Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Causes Confusion

This weekend during CES 2024, a statement involving the potential release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 caused a lot of confusion.

This weekend during CES 2024, a surprise announcement from electronic company Altec Lansing may have hinted at a release date for the “Nintendo Switch 2.” During this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, Altec Lansing unveiled AI Shark, an artificial intelligence-powered tool that will provide personalized hints for video game players. That sounds like an interesting tool, but part of what caught everyone’s attention was when the announcement mentioned the next Nintendo console.

In a press release, Altec Lansing said:

The innovative gaming software is set to mark a significant leap forward in the gaming experience, bringing enhanced gameplay for beginner-level users. The official launch is planned to coincide with the Nintendo Switch 2 in September 2024.

This came as a shock to many as the rumors of a new Nintendo console were just that, rumors. Since Nintendo has yet to make any concrete announcements about the Switch follow-up, this statement from Altec Lansing has caught a lot of attention.

The announcement about the Nintendo Switch 2 releasing in September 2024 has been walked back since the original press release. First clarifying that they only meant Fall 2024, then further backtracking to say that there is no officially clarified launch yet, with one spokesperson even saying that it was just a guess. However, the casual confidence of the original statement has confused fans, causing many to wonder what insider knowledge the company may have. Unless it is a complete guess, which would make the statement even more strange.

With all of this confusion and rumors of the next Nintendo console already circulating the internet, it will be interesting to see what happens next. Will Nintendo make a statement or will they remain silent? Will the Nintendo Switch 2 launch this fall? We will have to wait and see.
