TaleWorlds Entertainment has announced that the upcoming DLC for Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord has been delayed. War Sails was initially planned for a June 17th release, but that has now been pushed back to an early Fall release window. The development team shared the news across social media and Steam, but thankfully, the fanbase seems generally understanding. The DLC was announced back in March with a cinematic trailer, but we have yet to see any gameplay of this new naval combat update.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord DLC delayed from June to early Fall 2025

The War Sails DLC was announced on March 20th during the Future Games Showcase. The trailer introduced a new faction, the Nords, and showcased ship-to-ship combat, with vessels ramming each other and archers firing arrows. This is the first DLC for Mount and Blade 2, which was released back in 2022. It will be exciting to see how this naval combat system works, given Mount and Blade’s combination of real-time strategy mechanics and the player’s ability to jump into the fray with third-person action.

In a post shared on social media, the TaleWorlds team explained the delay, writing, “We came to this decision… because we need more time to reach the level of quality you rightfully expect… We believe this short delay will ultimately lead to a better and more enjoyable experience for all players.” Pushing the date back from June to early Fall may not be a long wait. War Sails could arrive as early as September, which is only a few months away. Hopefully, the development team can utilize this time well. The post also promises “regular developer blogs, behind-the-scenes glimpses, fresh gameplay footage, and brand-new War Sails content as we head toward launch.”

In response to the news shared on platforms like Steam and Reddit, fans have had a largely positive reaction. While most agree they would have loved to have the DLC this June, they would rather the team take their time to create a more polished product than release something of lower quality earlier. One user on Steam responded to the news saying, “Take all the time you need.” On Reddit, one user wrote, “I’d rather they do it right than do it fast,” and another added, “While I’m disappointed if it needs more time then so be it plenty of games to play while I wait.” There was also a similar sentiment on Twitter, with one user responding to the post saying, “Take your time. My backlog could use a break.”

No one ever wants to have to delay a game, but it’s heartwarming to see such a positive community response to the news. With the summer showcase season just warming up, there’s still a strong possibility that we will get more info on War Sails in the coming weeks. Maybe our first glimpse of gameplay? For now, I wish the best of luck to the Mount and Blade 2 developers as they keep working towards this new DLC.
