Now that’s what you call a toxic relationship. This rare Minthara dialogue in BG3 explains a lot.

Picking the right companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 is easier said than done. You can’t just bring everyone into your camp, some of them have wildly different morals and straight-up hate each other. Invite one, and you might lose another. That’s part of what makes BG3 so incredibly replayable. You start a new run to see how different choices and party members shape the story, and to catch every little detail yourself. But with Minthara, one special dialogue is incredibly rare.
Minthara from the House Baenre can join your party in Act 2, but only if you side with her in Act 1 and help her attack the Druid Grove. After that, all it takes is rescuing her from Moonrise Towers, and just like that, this charming cultist of the Absolute can become part of your crew. In BG3, every companion can also be a romance option, and with Minthara, that romance is a literal test of your endurance.
Minthara comes from Menzoberranzan, the drow city where people are treated like tools. Murder, schemes, and backstabbing are just part of everyday life, and only those who show no mercy or weakness get ahead. That’s the world Minthara grew up in and you’ll definitely feel its impact.
Even if you’re not playing as a dark elf, you’ll get a peek into some of their strange customs. One particularly striking example pops up after one of Minthara’s kisses. When you chat with her afterward, there’s a special dialogue option where you can mention feeling a little weird after that kiss.
Totally unfazed, Minthara explains her toxin-filled diet and even tells you to start building up your resistance to avoid getting poisoned in a typical assassination attempt.
However, scene is incredibly rare, with only about a 1 in 100 chance of happening. The best way to unlock it is by kissing Minthara repeatedly to trigger the dialogue. If it still doesn’t pop up, there’s a mod that boosts the odds.
And don’t worry if you finished a playthrough with Minthara and had no idea this scene even existed. Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of those games packed with so many details, it’s almost impossible to catch everything. Take the first fight with Auntie Ethel. There’s a simple trick to make it easier that many players only found out way later. Same with a powerful Wizard weapon hidden in Act 1 that’s easy to miss. Little things like this keep turning up long after release.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
