The announcement of the Definitive Edition of the legendary RTS, considered one of the best Warhammer game ever, got a mixed reaction. Fans weren’t too impressed with the graphics improvements, calling them pretty minor, and many felt it wasn’t enough to justify skipping a free update for people who already owned the original. But now, there’s a new “issue” that’s got people riled up.

They gave us the remaster, but took something precious

A few days ago, a new trailer for Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War Definitive Edition dropped, dropped, revealing the launch date – August 14th, 2025. At first glance, it’s the original 2004 trailer with a visual facelift. Most of it feels the same, except for one noticeable detail (via Mein-MMO).

In the original, the Space Marine sergeant didn’t shout a standard command, he just let out that iconic roar before charging into battle. In the remaster, though, he delivers a cleaner line: “Space Marines, attack!” And for some longtime fans, that was rather unacceptable.

This isn’t the only change, there are new voice lines from other units too, but this particular one irritated fans the most. In response, Relic Entertainment has promised to restore the original roar.

We've heard your feedback on the enhanced version of the Dawn of War trailer. The iconic roar was even more beloved than we realized! Though the original scream was very distorted, we'll release a version of the trailer with the original audio for the game's launch. Stay tuned!

They haven’t commented on the other changes yet, but some players are hoping the rest of the sound swaps might get rolled back as well.

In recent years, there’s been a lot of Warhammer 40K games released, with some big hits like Space Marine 2 and Rogue Trader. But even after all this time, Dawn of War still stands out on Steam with some of the best reviews in the series. After the disappointment of Dawn of War 3, fans definitely have good reason to be excited about this remaster.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
